Belarus is a country with unique history and rich cultural heritage. The country is landlocked, but due to its geographical position, Belarus is a trade and transport link between Europe and the CIS countries.
Belarus is a country of lakes.There are about 10,800 lakes here. The lakes are particularly numerous in the north of the country. The largest one is Lake Naroch, which length is 80 square kilometers. The lakes are noted for their great depth, transparent water and beautiful scenery.
Belarus is a green country. The territory of Belarus is 40% of forest, which corresponds to the green strip in the Belarusian flag. The largest forests are called pushchas. The Byelovezhskaya Pushcha is famous for its bisons. Fauna is rich and diverse there: one can see elks and deer, wild boars and wolves, bears and foxes, beavers and lynxes, not mentioning myriads of birds.
The capital and largest city of Belarus is Minsk. During the Second World War, Minsk was completely destroyed. Nowadays, Minsk is a modern European city with excellent transport links and a developed economy.
The population of Minsk is about 1.8 million people. Recently the capital’s infrastructure has actively invested to by foreign investors from the Gulf countries, Turkey, Iran, UK, USA, China, Russia and Latin America.

More than 70% of Belarusians has a university degree. The Government of the Republic of Belarus actively participates in education and health sphere of life in the country. For Belarusians education and treatment is free of charge. However, it is not that easy to obtain the higher education in Belarus as it may seem. The educational base of the Republic of Belarus is the best that was achieved in the educational system of the Soviet Union and it deserves the title of one of the most successful education systems that has ever existed in the world, only with the difference that the current institutions constantly monitor the latest changes in their fields and methods of teaching their students. Now in Belarus 30% of students obtaining a certificate with the first or second degree in higher education are foreign students. In general, foreign students choose obtaining a degree in medical, humanitarian and engineering fields. Often such a degree is of higher quality in comparison with the degree that they can obtain in their Homeland.
