National Library of the Republic of Belarus

Minsk is the most visited city in Belarus, not only because it is the capital, but also because of its incredible beauty. The city has many attractions, and as you know, the sights of any country - is their calling card. All the knowledge accumulated by human is stored in books, therefore the National Library is the calling card of Belarus - a place that people come to see from all countries. Today there is not only a collection of book collector's publications, but also a rich multifunctional center where high technology, cutting-edge design and unusual architecture are combined.

History of the National Library

The National Library in Minsk was founded in 1922 at the Belarusian State University. At the time of opening, the library funds totaled only 60 thousand copies, which were used by only about 1 thousand people. Over time, the library was renamed more than once and its location was changed. In March 2002, it was decided to build a new building for the library. The foundation was laid in November of that year.

The construction of the new building of the National Library marked the beginning of a new stage in the development of the country's largest library; this building has become one of the main national symbols, the main attraction of the country. The new building of the National Library of Belarus was opened on June 16, 2006.

Reading rooms

Mostly reading rooms are crammed with high school students, students of vocational schools, secondary specialized and higher educational institutions, as well as bachelors, undergraduates, and academic degree applicants. The reading room provides access to information resources on the Internet, an electronic library, an electronic archive of national periodicals, corporate databases, and databases of leading world information companies. And the mode of operation of the hall corresponds to the mode of operation of the library.

Bibliographic list editing is a paid service provided for students of educational institutions to help finalize and edit the list of references to scientific works. The service “Editing a bibliographic list for scientific work” allows you to remotely place an order and receive an edited list, made in accordance with the requirements of your certification commission, by e-mail.

Electronic document delivery

Another paid service that allows you to order digital copies of document fragments from the collections of the National Library. The cost of the service includes the production of an order for digital copies of fragments of documents, monitoring the implementation of the order in your account, receiving additional assistance on order.

Checking text documents for plagiary

The service allows you to check the text of your degree, dissertation, term paper on plagiarism, and receive an information report on the availability of borrowings by e-mail.

Activities

The National Library organizes events such as book exhibitions dedicated to the Great Victory, the Health of the nation, famous artists, the International Mother Language Day, as well as conducting eco-greenhouses in support of environmental issues.

National Library Projects

Projects of the National Library are virtual works dedicated to memorable events and people of Belarus. Projects created to honor the memory and broaden the horizons of readers.

Confession of courage and love

The project, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of the national artist of Belarus Mikhail Savitsky (1922–2010). It contains the main works of the artist, his brief biography, illustrations for children's books, and articles dedicated to Mikhail Savitsky, his photographs and videos with the hero of Belarusian art.

UNESCO and Belarus: milestones of cooperation

The project prepared for the 65th anniversary of Belarus joining the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The work explains the importance of UNESCO in world culture, tells the history of relations between UNESCO and Belarus, raises general issues of cooperation in the field of education, science, culture, information and communication, as well as Belarus list of UNESCO memorable dates.

Musical romantic from Minsk, Stanislav Monyushko

The project, created on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the musician’s birth, tells about his role in Belarusian culture, his musical heritage, his works on the Belarusian stage, and the perpetuation of the memory of the great Stanislav Monyushko.

National Library Tours

The library provides a full list of excursions in the National Library, including interactive excursions, educational, overview, thematic, excursions for children, and even quests. Tours are conducted in Russian, Belarusian and English (in the museum of the book - in Russian and Belarusian). Groups are formed by appointment. The composition of the group is up to 15 people.

How to become a member?

To record in the library and receive a library ticket, the visitor must present an identity document: passport, residence permit in the Republic of Belarus, refugee certificate. A library card is issued after payment. When writing to the library, the reader is obliged to familiarize themselves with the Rules for Using the National Library of Belarus and attest to their obligations to fulfill them by personal signature. Readers are recorded at the reception located in the central lobby of the Library.
