What is a coronavirus test?
Since the development of a vaccine takes more than a year from the onset of the disease to its validation at all stages of testing, health monitoring has to be done only with the help of rapid tests.
The test is able to reveal the presence of a disease in the human body and, based on this information, take appropriate measures. Such measures can be the observation of the patient's doctors and adherence to the self-isolation regime to prevent a further increase in the incidence.
If you arrive from another country, it is not necessary to take the test today if you do not have the corresponding symptoms. But even the presence does not guarantee coronavirus infection.
The most common reasons for taking the test are: fever, cough, difficulty breathing, and symptoms of pneumonia.
A common test is done by taking a swab from the patient's throat or nose. The smear is taken to the laboratory, where it is examined.
The procedure is based on the so-called polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In PCR, a specially selected DNA fragment is copied and multiplied in a thermal cycler to search for specific DNA fragments, such as coronavirus. This event helps to find out the presence of pathogens in the body and their number.
As a rule, the doctor receives the results in one or two days, after which he informs the patient about them. If an infection is identified, the doctor will also notify the local health authorities.
