History of BSMU

Today BSMU is a leading university in the field of medical education. Throughout its history, it has earned a worthy status and respect among applicants and graduates.

The history of the institution began in 1921, when the establishment of a medical educational institution was announced in Belarus. And only in 2001 the university received its official name - Belarusian State Medical University.

The year 1925 became important for the history of the university, because then the first group of students, consisting of 21 people, graduated.

The events of the Second World War forced the university staff to stop its activities. Many students and teachers went to the front to fight for the peaceful life of future generations. Already in 1944, the institute resumed its activities in the same place.

After 2 years, a decision was made to create a student scientific society. In the same years, new departments and faculties were opened, which are still actively developing within the walls of the university. Such faculties were the Faculty of Dentistry, Pediatric and Sanitary and Hygienic Faculties.

In 1967, the university began teaching foreign applicants.

In 2011, the university received a certificate of compliance with the requirements of international standards in the field of education and science STB ISO 9001-2009 and DIN EN ISO 9001: 2008.

Faculties at BSMU

The university invites applicants to the following faculties:

• Military Medical Faculty;

•Medical Faculty;

• Medical and Preventive Faculty;

• Faculty of Pediatrics;

• Faculty of Dentistry;

• Pharmaceutical Faculty.

Education for foreign students at BSMU

Foreign applicants can apply for a place in BSMU only on a paid basis. A separate list of documents for the selection committee is presented for them. Each document must be translated into one of the official languages ​​of Belarus and notarized.

An invitation to study is sent only after a personal appeal of a foreign applicant with a request to issue a document and an indication of the specialty of training for the preparatory department and for the first year of study.

Internship at BSMU

Students entering the internship can count on deepening knowledge in the field of medicine of the chosen specialty and acquiring additional skills for self-employment in the profession of a medical specialist.

Internship training is carried out in 19 specialties in accordance with the internship programs.

Having received all knowledge in the Internship, the doctor is admitted to the examination with a qualification commission. After passing the exam, the members of the commission decide on the compliance of the intern doctor with the qualification characteristics of their specialty. In case of a positive answer, the doctor is issued a certificate of completion of the internship.

Master`s degree at BSMU

Students entering the magistracy can count on deepening knowledge in the field of medicine of the chosen specialty and acquiring additional skills for further study in graduate school. At the end of the training, the graduate is awarded a diploma with the assignment of a Master's degree.

The admission of students is carried out with the requirement of a higher medical education of the 1st stage and scientific publications on relevant topics.

Postgraduate study at BSMU

Postgraduate studies are the stage of postgraduate education. Her task is to prepare and defend a thesis for the degree of candidate of sciences. At the end of the training, the graduate is awarded a diploma with the award of the degree "Researcher".

The preparation of postgraduate students is carried out for a period of 3 academic years in the full-time form, 4 academic years in the correspondence course, and 5 years in the form of competition.

Postgraduate studies are conducted in 40 medical and biological specialties.

Clinical residency at BSMU

Clinical residency is the highest form of professional training for doctors.

Training is carried out at the clinical departments of the university in full-time and part-time form. The range of training specialties is determined by the future needs of health care in specialists of certain specialties.

More than 100 specialist doctors receive clinical residency every year. Moreover, half of them receive education free of charge.
