A draft law on depriving Belarusians of citizenship

The bill on amendments to the legislation on citizenship contains provisions for the deprivation of Belarusian citizenship and a ban on entry into the country for 30 years, Minsk-News reported.

The Interior Minister explained that the bill concerns citizens who have committed criminal acts against the state, primarily of an extremist orientation, if they are outside the country and continue criminal activities.

According to the draft law, there should be a mandatory court decision on a conviction in absentia in respect of these citizens. When the conviction comes into force, a proposal may be made to revoke citizenship. After the deprivation of citizenship of the Republic of Belarus, a ban on entry to the territory of the country may be issued for 30 years.

The bill was supported by the President. It will be discussed.
