A graduate student at VSMU is developing a diagnostic approach for brain damage in newborns

Olga Prishchepenko, a graduate student at Vitebsk Medical University, is developing a method for diagnosing brain damage in newborns, BelTA writes.

Her research on hemolytic disease of newborns during isoimmunization according to the ABO and Rhesus systems has led to new data on the mechanisms of development of brain damage. Using the method of enzyme immunoassay, it determines the concentration of proteins specific to the brain, which allows to identify damage.

At the stage of testing the received diagnostic criteria, she was awarded a Presidential scholarship. The results of a study aimed at early diagnosis and prevention of complications in newborns can significantly improve medical practice.
