A large report on the digital sphere in Belarus

DataReportal analysts annually issue a report on the use of digital technologies and Internet trends in the world. The dev.by portal collected information from the report on Belarus.

In January 2022, the population of Belarus was 9.44 million people — about 8.3 thousand less than in 2021. The number of Internet users as of January 2022 was 8.03 million people or 85.1% of the population. This is 1% less than in 2021. This is the first decline in 10 years of DataReportal research.

Internet

The main search engine for Belarusians is Google. It is about 3.5 times more popular than its closest competitor, Yandex.

Mobile network

The number of mobile connections at the beginning of 2022 in Belarus was 11.64 million or 123.3% of the total population. Over the year, this indicator increased by 0.6%.

Broadband connections (3G, 4G, 5G) account for 76.4%.

The cheapest smartphone in Belarus costs $136.91which is 28.5% of the average income of the population. And 1 GB of mobile internet costs $0.43.

Most of all traffic was recorded from Android (77.5%), iOS (22.1%) is in second place, and Samsung's OS is in third place.

Finance

About 81.2% of the population has an account in banks and other financial organizations, 18.7% of Belarusians own credit cards, and 70.6% own debit cards.

Over the past year, 78.7% of the population made or received digital payments, every third person made at least one purchase via the Internet, 32% used Internet banking, and 42% paid bills online.

Social network

The number of users of social networks has grown by 450 thousand over the year and is equal to 4.35 million. This is 46.1% of the population. About 95.7% access social networks from mobile devices.

Facebook covers about 7.5% of the total population of Belarus and has 706.1 thousand users.

Instagram has 3.7 million users in Belarus. This is 46.1% of the total population of the country.

TikTok has 38.3% of all Internet users in Belarus.

Twitter has 187.4 thousand users in Belarus — 2.3% of the population.
