A new property tax may appear in Belarus

A new real estate tax may soon appear in Belarus, minsknews.by reports.

According to current legislation, real estate tax should be paid only if there are two or more apartments. Now legislators propose to tax all apartments, including the first and only ones.

If the document is adopted, the new tax will have to be paid from January 1, 2022. The amount is 0.2% of the cost of the apartment.

Some categories of citizens will be exempt from real estate tax. These are minor owners, as well as incapacitated, disabled people of the 1st and 2nd groups, soldiers, pensioners and participants of the Great Patriotic War. For those who own several apartments, the benefit will apply only to one of the properties.

The draft has not yet been adopted, and it is unknown whether it will be adopted in its final form or with adjustments.
