Belarus and Azerbaijan discussed new transport routes
Minister of Transport and Communications of Belarus Alexey Avramenko held a working meeting with Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan Rashad Nabiyev, tut.by reports. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues related to the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the field of transport.
At the meeting, questions were raised about cooperation in the field of aviation. The parties discussed the possibility of restoring regular flights between Belarus and Azerbaijan as in the period before the pandemic. Currently, only the Belavia airline provides regular flights between Minsk and Baku.
The head of the Transport department suggested considering the possibility of a transcontinental flight of AZAL airlines on the route Baku – Minsk - New York and New York – Minsk - Baku. Alexander Avramenko noted that such flights through Minsk can attract not only citizens of Belarus and Azerbaijan, but also passengers from the Baltic states.
Questions were raised about the railway connection. The organization and development of the project of a container train on the route Minsk - Baku were considered. Further work on the engineering the railway infrastructure was also discussed.
The issue of cooperation in the field of road transport was not left aside. Belarus has requested to consider the possibility of increasing the quota of Azerbaijani permits to / from third countries.
In the end, both sides expressed interest in partnership and the development of new areas of cooperation.
