Belarus closes land border to exit

By a resolution of the Council of Ministers, it was decided to introduce a temporary ban on leaving Belarus through ground checkpoints, tut.by reports. This measure is explained by the rapid spread of the coronavirus in the country.

The measure on temporary suspension of crossing the land border applies to citizens of the Republic of Belarus, as well as foreign citizens who have a permit for permanent or temporary residence in the territory of the Republic of Belarus.

Exit restrictions apply at road checkpoints, simplified checkpoints, railway stations and river ports.

The ban on leaving the country does not apply to people with diplomatic passports, official delegations, drivers of international road transport, crews of aircraft and ships and some other categories.

The following categories of Belarusians will be allowed to leave the country:

  • upon notification of a serious illness or death of a close relative, spouse;
  • to receive medical assistance;
  • who have a residence permit in a foreign state;
  • working on the territory of a foreign state;
  • for education in foreign educational organizations.

Leaving the country for these purposes will be allowed no more than once every six months.

In addition, foreigners arriving in Belarus must have a certificate with a negative result for COVID-19.
