Belarus introduced standards for testing cosmetics without animals

Belarus has been introducing standards for alternative testing methods for perfumery and cosmetic products since April 1. Now the toxicological indicators of products will be determined without testing on laboratory animals, the Minsk-News agency writes with reference to the Gosstandart.

Two new standards (GOST 34722-2021 and GOST 34726-2021) will help to assess the danger of products to human eyes. They establish test methods using the cornea of extracted cattle eyes and in vitro using short-term exposure.

At the moment, there are 8 standards for alternative methods of testing perfumes and cosmetics in Belarus. Another 7 standards are under development.
