Belarus plans to return part of plastic tableware to public catering
The Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade is putting forward for public discussion a project of document that changes the list of prohibited disposable tableware for public catering, relax.by reports.
The Minisrty proposes to exclude from the list of prohibited disposable tableware: cups of 300 ml or more, straws for drinks, cans, bottles, trays, containers and lunch boxes.
(Earlier it was reported that from January 1, 2021, it was forbidden to use and sell disposable plastic dishes in public catering facilities).
MART clarifies that the document was adjusted in order to prevent an increase in prices for public catering products due to the lack of alternative packaging made of eco-materials of domestic production, and the need to use such packaging of imported production, the price of which exceeds the cost of similar disposable plastic products by an average of 2 - 4 times.
If the proposed project for discussion is adopted, disposable plastic forks, spoons, knives, sticks for stirring drinks, cups up to 300 ml, plates and boxes, with the exception of those intended for packaging of semi-finished culinary products and confectionery, will remain prohibited for use in public catering.
Until May 14, citizens can make comments and suggestions on the draft resolution at the Legal Forum of Belarus.
