Belarus supports the statement of the "nuclear five" on the prevention of an arms race
Recently, the leaders of the five nuclear powers adopted a statement on the prevention of nuclear war. The press secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaze expressed his support to them.
He told BELTA: "The Nuclear Five states have essentially come to a consensus that there can be no winners in a nuclear war and it should never be unleashed. In the conditions of turbulence of international relations and the presence of serious interstate contradictions, this is not a formalism, but a very important fact."
The Foreign Ministry agreed that this step will help achieve progress in the field of disarmament and create a world free of nuclear weapons. And together with the extension in February 2021 of the Russian-American treaty on measures for further reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms, it will strengthen international security.
Belarus was the first in the post-Soviet space to voluntarily renounce the possession of nuclear weapons. At the end of November 2021, the 25th anniversary of the withdrawal of the last missile with a nuclear warhead from the country's territory was celebrated.
