Belarus to reduce list of professions prohibited for women
The list of jobs where women cannot be involved was developed in the Soviet years. It exists not for the sake of prohibition, but with the protection of women's health in mind. For example, for women, standards that are more lenient have been established with respect to lifting and manually moving heavy loads, permissible noise levels, vibration, and other loads. The last changes were made in 2014.
The new changes were published by Minsk-News. The list has been reduced from 181 professions to 93. The ban on women working as truckers, tractor drivers, drivers of intercity passenger buses, metro drivers has been lifted.
Work in the field of peat extraction and processing will become more accessible, since almost all processes here are already mechanized. Women will also be able to work at high altitudes (industrial mountaineering).
At the same time, women can work even in a profession that falls under the ban if, as a result of the inspection, the workplace is recognized as safe for her health.
