Belarusian straw weaving is included in the UNESCO list

The art of straw weaving of Belarus is included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list, BelTA reported. Let us remind you that an exhibition of world pop art is taking place Minsk.

Belarusian straw arts have no analogues in the world. They are one of the most nationally distinctive forms of revealing spiritual values and artistic traditions of Belarusians.

In Belarus, there are more than 200 artisans of straw weaving, 20 of them have the honorary title of "People's Craftsman of Belarus".

The beginning of the use of straw by the Belarusian Slavs as a material for weaving dates back to the period of expansion of agriculture at the turn of 2000 – 1000 BC.

The art of straw weaving has become the fifth national element of Belarus in the UNESCO lists.
