Belarusian Surgeons Perform First Lung Transplant for Patient with Disorders

Belarusian Surgeons Perform First Lung Transplant for Patient with Disorders

In Minsk, doctors have successfully performed the first lung transplant in the CIS on a 21-year-old patient from Uzbekistan, Belarus Today reports.

The young man faced severe immune deficiency along with congenital problems of the heart and lungs, which made his case especially challenging. Doctors had to not only replace the lungs but also address several related complications at the same time.

The surgery brought together experts from the Minsk Center for Surgery, Transplantology and Hematology and the Children’s Surgical Center. Their coordinated effort ensured a positive outcome: the transplant was successful, and the patient is now stable, recovering, and preparing to return to Uzbekistan.

This breakthrough highlights an important milestone for Belarusian healthcare and shows how teamwork and a holistic approach can make even the most complex medical interventions possible.
