Caries vaccine development in Belarus

Belarus is developing a drug for dental caries in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences, Sputnik shares.

Rector of the Belarusian State Medical University, Sergey Rubnikovich, announced the launch of a new project in January. The aim of the project is to create a drug or vaccine that will prevent the formation of microorganisms that cause caries and their attachment to the hard tissues of the tooth.

He also stressed the importance of the prevention of dental diseases and the growing number of Belarusians seeking preventive care in dental clinics every year. In 2023, this number accounted for about 50% of the total number of patients, indicating increased awareness of oral health care.
