Deflation returned to Belarus and food prices decreased

In August, the overall level of food prices decreased by 1 per cent, Sputnik reported. Inflation in annual terms by the end of August in Belarus amounted to 2.3%.

Deflation in the segment of food products amounted to 1%. Non-food products as a whole rose in price by 0.2% over the month.

The trend continues to decrease the annual level of the general consumer price index. Now it is 2.3%, and in July it was 2.7%.

According to experts of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), earlier state regulation of prices and weak demand helped to reduce inflation in Belarus. In the near future, inflation may increase, in particular, due to the recovery in demand.

At the same time, imports have exceeded exports in Belarus over the past seven months.
