Emissions from cars decreased by 6% in Minsk

Over the past 3 years, the volume of emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air of Minsk from transport has decreased by 8 thousand tons or 6%, Minsk-News reported.

The deputy chairman of the Minsk City Committee of Natural Resources also said that 85% of the emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air of Minsk are accounted for by cars. Industrial emissions make up only 15%. The maximum permissible concentrations of nitrogen and carbon oxides are observed during peak hours from 7 AM to 9AM and 5 PM to 7 PM which is associated with an increase in the number of vehicles.

Nevertheless, there is a positive trend towards reducing emissions from transport. This is due to the fact that residents of the city update their cars, use public transport more often. The quality of fuel has also improved, there are more public electric vehicles, and electric cars have become more popular.

In total, Belarus numbers some 4 thousand electric cars. There are now more than 600 charging stations for them in the country.
