For the first time, laser is used for archaeological searches in Belarus

Teachers and students of the Faculty of History and the Faculty of Geoinformatics of the Belarusian State University are working on a project on the use of laser scanning for the first time, the university's website writes.

The idea of LiDAR technology is the use of a laser scanner mounted on an unmanned aerial vehicle. The device scans the earth's surface and provides detailed terrain models. The obtained models make it possible to discover previously hidden archaeological objects.

In Belarus, the technology began to be used in 2022. This fall, they plan to conduct new studies of the territory near Polotsk, in which BSU scientists will take part.

Recently, we told you what exams Belarusian school graduates choose to enroll in universities.
