Gorbunov told about the side effects of the Belarusian vaccine against COVID-19
The Belarusian vaccine against COVID-19 will be easily tolerated, said Vladimir Gorbunov, director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, minsknews.by reports.
Gorbunov noted that the Belarusian vaccine being developed is an inactivated whole-virion vaccine. Its advantage over other vaccines is that it contains almost the entire spectrum of virus antigens. He added that this type of vaccine has been known to mankind for many decades.
"Live, or attenuated, vaccines that are made on the basis of weakened strains of the microorganism are worse tolerated by the body", - the expert explained.
"We decided to follow the path of a well-known technology. In the current conditions, there is no time to engage in the development of more serious technologies from scratch. And this vaccine can be obtained fairly quickly and with high reliability and efficiency", - the director of the center said.
In addition, according to the director of the RSPC of Epidemiology and Microbiology, the introduction of the Belarusian vaccine does not exclude the manifestation of side effects. There may be allergic reactions, some non-specific symptoms: fatigue, weakness and others. However, inactivated vaccines are suitable for the vast majority of people without problems.
The widespread use of the vaccine among the population is expected in 2023.
