How can EU sanctions against Belarus affect China?

China has expressed concern that European Union sanctions could damage rail transport on the China-Europe route, tut.by reports.

In connection with the imposition of sanctions by the European Union against Belarus, the operation of the railway between China and European countries may be under the threat of interruptions and instability in work. Sea and air transport has already been severely affected by the pandemic, which has broken out for more than six months, so China fears the loss of ground communications. In order for all countries to recover from a long break in work due to the coronavirus, the railway must carry out transportation properly.

As a reminder, the European Union has not yet recognized the results of the 2020 presidential elections in Belarus. On the 2nd of October, Brussels imposed sanctions against certain officials of Belarus, who, according to the European Union, are involved in the violence against participants in peaceful protests.
