Ice Hockey World Championship 2021 is moved from Belarus

Today, the Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation made a decision to move the Ice Hockey World Championship 2021 from Belarus, tut.by reports.

Over the past few months, the Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation has been conducting investigations into safety issues and the epidemiological situation in Belarus. Based on the results of considering these two aspects, it was decided to move the event from Belarus.

To make a decision, meetings were held with the participation of experts and all interested parties in order to assess the level of security that can be provided to participants, spectators and media representatives in Belarus. The final stage of the negotiations was the meeting of the Council with the government of Belarus.

Due to the current political situation in Belarus and doubts about the reliability of statistics on COVID-19, the Council cannot guarantee the safety of the Championship participants.

It is still unknown which country will host the Ice Hockey World Championship 2021.
