Innovation Fund for production of activated carbon
A project by BSU received a grant from the iUNRC Innovation Fund for developing a new method of producing activated carbon from wood waste and hydrolysis lignin, BelTA writes.
The technology reduces costs, avoids cutting birch trees, and produces material that outperforms many global analogues.
The carbon can be used for water and gas purification, removal of radionuclides at nuclear power plants, as well as in medicine and the food industry. The production process also generates phosphorus-potassium fertilizers for agriculture.
The three-year project is now focused on improving the technology before launching industrial production.
