Latvia will not extend residence permits to Belarusians and Russians

The Latvian Seimas approved amendments to the immigration law that suspend the possibility of extending residence permits for Russian and Belarusian citizens, Minsk-News reported.

Russians and Belarusians who have received a residence permit on the basis of investments made or the purchase of real estate in Latvia will not be able to extend it. The law provides that restrictions on Belarusians are applied to a narrower extent.

All residence permits for Russian citizens is valid until September 1, 2023. In order to extend it, they will need to provide a certificate of proficiency in the national language in accordance with the law before the end of the prescribed period.

Russians will also no longer be able to get a work visa, Belarusians have not been affected by such an amendment to the law.
