Major repairs are underway at the oldest observatory in Minsk

The oldest observatory in Minsk is located in Gorky Park near the Minsk Planetarium. Today, the observatory is undergoing major repairs with restoration elements, which began in 2022, Minsk-News reported.

The reconstruction of the oldest cinema is also continuing in Minsk.

The observatory building was built in 1934. Once the entire central office of the hydrometeorological service was located here. Over time, the equipment was taken out of the city and the building turned into an architectural and historical monument.

After the restoration, the observatory will remain an administrative building. There are no plans to turn it into a weather station again.

There are seven weather stations in Minsk. The most modern meteorological station in Belarus is located in the area of the Uruchye microdistrict. All types of observations are conducted here: meteorological, hydrological (evaporation from the water surface), actinometric (observation of solar radiation), aerological (launching of radiosondes).

In addition, five more stations have been installed in Minsk at atmospheric air monitoring posts. They measure temperature, humidity and wind strength.
