Minsk authorities decided not to launch a high-speed tram

A few years ago, the Minsk authorities promised the citizens to launch a high-speed tram from the station to the outskirts of the city, as well as to extend the tram line to the airport itself. However, it was decided to abandon the project, Minsk-News reported.

There are several reasons for canceling the project. Firstly, a high-speed tram needs infrastructure: wires, laying rails. In addition, part of the residential development will have to be demolished. This is an expensive project for the city.

Therefore, the authorities suggest using electric buses and trolleybuses of autonomous running instead of a high-speed tram, as they are produced at Belarusian enterprises.  As a result, it was decided to give preference to electric transport.

Let us remind you that traffic on Siarova Street in Minsk was closed until December 21, 2022.
