Minsk may limit the speed of electric scooters

The State Traffic Inspectorate made a proposal to limit the speed of electric scooters in certain parts of Minsk, Sputnik reported. Find out how to save money on paying for public transport in Minsk.

The proposal was discussed on September 22 at a meeting of the city commission for road safety.

There are many places in Minsk where there are a large number of pedestrians, cyclists and people with electric scooters, gyroscuters, segways, monowheels at the same time.

To improve safety, the traffic police proposes to allocate three zones in which restrictions for such a transport will apply:

  • in the first zone, the speed should not exceed 20 km/h
  • in the "quiet zone" – no more than 15 km/h
  • in the prohibition zone (Upper Town within the boundaries of Lenin, Mezhdunarodnaya, Bogdanovich, Kupala Streets – from 8 PM on Friday to 8 AM on Monday, except for the central bike path)

The traffic police recalled that from October 27, changes in the rules of the road will come into force. People with electric scooters, gyroscuters, segways, monowheels are allowed to ride on bicycle paths, sidewalks, pedestrian paths or the curb. However, their speed should not exceed 25 km/h. It is also forbidden to transport passengers and ride on such transport if you are under 14 years old (except for residential and pedestrian areas).
