Number of cases of diabetes mellitus is growing in Minsk

Over the past 10 years, an increase in the incidence of diabetes has been recorded in Minsk by 1.7 times. Moreover, only in 2022 the number of people with this diagnosis increased by about 7 thousand people, Minsk-News reported.

According to IDF forecasts, about 5.6% of men in Belarus live with diabetes mellitus. The most common consequences of diabetes are blindness, kidney disease and amputation of limbs.

In the world, November 14 is the day of the fight against diabetes. World experts advise taking into account risk factors:

  • excess body weight;
  • age over 45;
  • family history;
  • high blood pressure and other cardiovascular diseases;
  • low physical activity.

As a preventive measure, a balanced diet, regular exercise, refusal of sweet and processed foods, as well as regular examinations and examinations will be effective.
