The Ministry of transport and communications of Belarus examines the possibility of opening flights between regional airports in 2020, belta.by reports.

"We think about projects for flights between regional cities. Previously, it was economically impractical, but when the airports began to revive, the economic situation begins to improve, it contributes to an increase in passenger traffic in general, " said Artem Sikorsky, director of the aviation Department of the Ministry of transport.

According to his words, flights can be performed not only by the Belarusian carrier, but also by Russian airlines that have expressed interest in the project. Ukrainian companies are also considered as a possible carrier.

This year, the number of passengers served at regional airports for 10 months of 2019 exceeded approximately 2 times the figure of the whole of 2018. First of all, this was due to the charter programs of the airline "Belavia". At the same time, the Ministry of transport is aimed at the emergence of regular flights from regional airports.
