The monastery where Napoleon stayed is being sold for $13

The building of the Carmelite monastery in Glubokoe, where the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte once stayed, has been empty for the last 50 years. It was put up for auction for the fifth time for one basic value – BYN 32 (almost $13), Sputnik reported.

The residential building of the monastery together with the church was built in 1735. The church, which has been operating as an Orthodox church since 1875, works to this day, but only one wing has survived from the residential building: the other two were dismantled at the end of the XIX century. The estimated cost of the building is BYN 249,220 ($100 thousand at the rate of the National Bank).

The auction will be held on October 10 in Vitebsk. Only legal entities and sole proprietors, as well as foreign investors can participate. According to the terms of the auction, the future owner will be obliged to sign a security obligation (since this is an object of historical and cultural value) and begin work on the reconstruction of the building.
