The Olympic Games have been officially postponed until next year

Over the past months, everyone has been discussing how the International Olympic Committee (hereinafter – the IOC) will deal with the coronavirus spread and whether the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo will take place. Today, Thomas Bach, the president of the IOC, officially agreed to postpone the Olympics for a year due to the coronavirus, reports tut.by.

In a telephone conversation with the president of the IOC, Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe proposed postponing the Olympic Games until next year, agreeing to hold the event no later than the summer of 2021. Until then, by decision of the IOC, the Olympic flame will remain in Tokyo.

The exact dates of the Olympics will be determined during next month.

The delay in the Olympic games was caused by the refusal of some countries, such as the United States, Canada, Australia, Norway and others (the Republic of Belarus did not give an official refusal) to participate this year. It is the first time in history when the Olympic Games are cancelled in peacetime.
