Top 6 popular tourist destinations in Belarus
Cultural tourism in Belarus draws foreign travelers willing to journey thousands of kilometers to experience its unique historical and artistic sites, BelTA shares.
Olga Baraulia, director of art tours, highlights six unconventional locations:
🔹 Polotsk – The Spaso-Euphrosyne Monastery, featuring rare 12th-century frescoes.
🔹 Mogilev – St. Nicholas Monastery, home to a 17th-century wooden iconostasis (one of only three in the world).
🔹 Vitebsk – A gallery of works by Yudel Pen, the teacher of Marc Chagall, partially lost during the war.
🔹 Brest – The Museum of Rescued Art Treasures, showcasing artifacts confiscated from smugglers.
🔹 Smilovichi – The Chaim Soutine Museum, dedicated to the artist’s life rather than his works.
🔹 Zaslavl – The Museum of Malyavanka, featuring unique "painted carpets" by Alena Kish.
Special interest is sparked by the "Berezina River" sign among the French (a symbol of Napoleon’s catastrophic retreat) and Russian Impressionist paintings in Minsk, capturing "a fleeting moment in dark tones."
These locations make Belarus an attractive destination for art and history enthusiasts.
