Unusual Exhibition at the Art Museum Showcases Archaeological Collection
The Art Museum, traditionally known for paintings and sculptures, has launched a unique exhibition titled "Art in Archaeology", Onliner shares. While the museum does not have a dedicated archaeological collection, over time, it has acquired artifacts through excavations.
According to curator Zmitser Monich, key exhibits include 13th-century stone icons from Minsk and chess pieces from Wolkowysk. The museum’s collection, consisting of nearly 200 excavated artifacts, features 89 items in the exhibition.
The display provides insight into Minsk’s and Belarus’s history, offering visitors additional information about the origins and significance of each piece. Monich hopes this initiative will attract archaeologists’ attention and foster future collaboration in preserving artistically valuable finds.
The exhibition runs from February 27 to April 6. Additionally, the "Losses and Recoveries: The Fate of Art Treasures (1939–1957)" exhibition has been extended until March 23.
