Holy Spirits of the Cathedral

The history of the creation of the Holy Spirits of the Cathedral

The construction of this magnificent temple lasted for almost ten years from 1633 to 1642. Initially, the building was supposed to become part of a Catholic monastery, but after the fire, the former church turned into an Orthodox church. Today the Church of the Holy Spirit is the Cathedral of the city of Minsk. The main relics of the temple are the relics of St. Sophia of Slutsk and the miraculous icon of the Mother of God. The cathedral currently has its own website, which contains the latest news on church events and the schedule of services.

Architecture of the Holy Spirits of the Cathedral

The architectural appearance of the religious building is made in the Baroque style. Inside, the temple is divided by six pillars into three naves, which are the base for Belarusian Catholic and Uniate churches. The facade of the building is decorated with multi-tiered towers decorated with pilasters, arched niches and spans. The walls are decorated with many mosaics and stained glass windows. The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit consists of the main church and two side-altars - the southern (in the name of Cyril and Methodius) and the northern (in the name of the great martyr Barbara). The Cathedral of the Descent of the Holy Spirit is one of the most revered and beautiful churches in Minsk.
