The center provides multidisciplinary medical care for Belarusian and foreign citizens.

The center carries out such tasks as:

• Improvement of the existing system of treatment in the field of radiation medicine;

Due to the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, more than half of the radioactive substances entered the territory of Belarus. This caused negative changes in the health status of the country's residents. For this reason, there was an urgent need to open new medical institutions that would deal with the consequences of the deteriorating health of the victims.

In 1990, with these goals, a regional dispensary for radiation medicine was opened. Unfortunately, he could not fully provide patients with everything they need and fully provide medical care.

As a result of the reorganization, the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Radiation Medicine and Human Ecology was opened on the basis of a new building of a special dispensary built in Gomel. Today, the center is the main organization for the provision of specialized medical care to the population affected by the Chernobyl disaster.
