Belarus' foreign exchange reserves increased by 2.5% in April
According to preliminary data, Belarus' international reserve assets amounted to $7.7 billion in equivalent as of May 1, 2022, BelTA reports. We also wrote that since the beginning of the year, the state debt of Belarus has grown by 13.1%.
In April 2022, the gold and foreign exchange reserves of Belarus increased by $189 million (or 2.5%) after a decrease in March by $692.9 million (or 8.4%). The growth of gold and foreign exchange reserves was facilitated by the purchase of foreign currency by the National Bank on the Belarusian stock Exchange.
At the same time, in April, the government paid domestic and foreign debts in the amount of $70 million. According to monetary policy, by January 1, 2023, the volume of Belarus' foreign exchange reserves should be at least $7 billion.
