BSU scientists suggested how to improve the ecosystem of Naroch lakes

For 5 years, researchers have analyzed almost all 48 reservoirs of the Naroch Lakes system — one of the most popular tourist places in Belarus, the Belarussian state university website writes. Scientists have established that now the state of lake ecosystems is favorable and stable.

However, there are several lakes from the risk group with negative trends and disturbances in ecosystems. To improve their ecological condition, the lakes will be filled with native fish species. Scientists will also restore the breeding grounds of fish and carry out winter harvesting of reeds.

The second component of the plan is aimed at developing the economic and tourist potential of the lakes. Zones for underwater hunting and diving, as well as amateur ornithology will be created.

In the future, such methods will help improve the condition of other lake systems in Belarus.
