National Bank to develope digital Belarusian ruble

The digital Belarusian ruble will be an addition to cash. It will also be used for cross-border payments, Sputnik reported.

The digital ruble in Belarus will be introduced in three stages in the period from 2023 to 2025. At the first stage, a demo version of the digital Belarusian ruble platform will be created, as well as amendments to the legislation will be prepared.

At the second stage, a digital currency platform will be developed. At the third stage, the platform will be finalized and tested for all types of transactions.

The exact timing of the launch of the digital Belarusian ruble platform was not reported.

Deflation returned to Belarus in August and the cost of food decreased.
