UN Rapporteur was acquainted with Belarus' approaches to ensuring foreigners' rights

The UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of migrants, Felipe Gonzalez Morales, got acquainted with Belarus' approaches to ensuring the rights of foreigners, BELTA reports. After the meeting, the parties agreed to continue cooperation.

Felipe Gonzalez Morales visited Belarus as an independent person in order to understand why there was a large flow of migrants at the Belarusian-Polish border in 2021. And also what steps should be taken to eliminate such situations in the future.

The head of the Citizenship and Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs spoke about the observance in Belarus of all measures to prevent violations of the rules of stay in the country. In particular, foreign citizens arrived on the basis of tourist visas, had a return ticket, a hotel reservation and money. When it became clear that residents of Central Asia and the Middle East were using Belarus as a transit country to break into the European Union, visa issuance was suspended.

We remind you that Polish citizens, as well as Latvian and Lithuanian citizens can visit Belarus without a visa.
