Volume of recycled waste in Minsk has doubled in 6 years

In 2021, 32% of the waste collected in Minsk was sent for recycling. Six years ago, 15-17% of the total volume of waste was sent for recycling, the website of the Minsk City Executive Committee writes.

At the same time, about half of the plastic waste is not recyclable, since existing technologies are not suitable for certain types of plastic. Such polymers are dumped or burned.

Plastic bottles are processed only if it is possible to eliminate their contamination. As a result, about 10% of bottles are rejected, the remaining 90% are processed into raw materials, which enterprises buy for packaging production.
