Women's participation in Belarus' political life remains at high level
The Permanent Coordinator of the UN in Belarus, Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki, said that the level of women's participation in the political life of the country is higher than in most countries of Europe and Central Asia, BelTA reported.
The Parliament of Belarus consists of 40% women. In addition, over the past five years, the Government has reduced the number of professions prohibited for women from 252 to 182.
Gender equality in society is one of the four priorities of cooperation between the UN and Belarus for the coming years. Belarus is currently ranking 36th out of 146 countries in the Global Gender Gap Index.
In 2020, Belarus took the 29th place. Despite the decline in position, the country is still ahead of many other states.
In January, the UN Refugee Division announced about strengthening cooperation with Belarus.
