Gomel State University named after Francysk Skaryna

The Skaryna GSU is the leading university in the Gomel region. It is one of the top 5 higher educational institutions in Belarus. Gomel State University named after Francysk Skaryna was established on the basis of the Gomel Pedagogical Institute, opened on November 8, 1930. The Pedagogical Institute with a 2-year and then 4-year period of study had 3 faculties: Physics and Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology, Literature and Language.

During the Great Patriotic War, many teachers and students were drafted into the Red Army, and the Institute was evacuated to the Kirov region. On November 26, 1943 the city of Gomel was liberated and from May 31, 1944 the work of the Gomel Pedagogical Institute was resumed. During this period, the main directions of research work of the departments were determined.

The structure of the GSU named after F. Skaryna includes: 12 faculties; Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Personnel; 2 research institutes; 18 research laboratories; 42 student research units; 43 departments; university-wide Francysk Skaryna laboratory museum, 7 museum expositions of faculties, post-graduate studies, doctoral studies.

Belarusian Trade and Economic University

At the first stage of higher education in BTEU training is carried out in 12 specialties of full-time and part-time forms of education at 3 faculties:

• economics and management;
• accounting and financial;
• commercial.

BTEU has bilateral cooperation agreements with more than 50 educational institutions and research centres from 15 countries. The university's priority in the field of international cooperation is to train specialists for foreign countries. The university has been training foreign citizens since 2005. Over this period, more than 150 foreign nationals from 15 countries have received higher education diplomas: Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, India, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine.

BTEU pays great attention to educational and cultural-leisure work with foreign students, healthy lifestyle, physical culture and sports. Among foreign citizens 2 students have a rank of the master of sports and 6 students are awarded the category of the candidate for the master of sports. The available sports base allows to carry out successfully competitions of various levels.

The university has a well-equipped material base in order to create the necessary conditions for the residence of foreign students, as well as for the organization of their life and free time. All international students are provided with dormitories.

The university has created the necessary conditions for international students to receive education at the level of international standards.

The program "Two or three diplomas" provides the student with the opportunity to study the point of view of educational systems of several countries and receive two (three) diplomas with the European application.

As a student of BTEU, foreign citizens, along with citizens of Belarus, can start their international careers and get two or three diplomas after graduation from the university - Belarusian and European universities:

• diploma of the specialist of EE "Belarusian Trade and Economic University of Consumer Cooperation" (Belarus);
• bachelor's degree from the Varna University of Management (VUM) (Bulgaria);
• bachelor's degree from Cardiff Metropolitan University (Great Britain).

Gomel State Medical University

Gomel State Medical University has more than 350 highly qualified professors, associate professors, assistants; 5 faculties: medical, medical-diagnostic, faculty of training for foreign countries, faculty of pre-university training; faculty of advanced training and retraining; as well as internship and clinical residency, doctoral studies, post-graduate studies and magistracy.

The university began its existence on November 1, 1990. The creation of the university was due to the acute need for medical personnel in the Gomel and Mogilev regions, due to the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, as well as the need to conduct scientific research on the study of the medical consequences of the Chernobyl disaster and search for ways to overcome them.

The clinical base of the university is one of the best in the Republic of Belarus, where the most modern medical technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of endocrinological, cardiological, immunological, hematological, ophthalmological and oncological diseases are applied.

At this university, foreign citizens can study only in the specialty "Medicine". Cost of training in Russian for foreign citizens from 3700$ to 3900$ per year, and in English from 4100$ to 4300$.

Gomel State Technical University named after P.O. Sukhoi

Gomel Technical University is one of the leading technical universities of the Republic of Belarus and trains engineers and highly qualified staff for such industries as mechanical engineering, metallurgy, energy, economics, radio electronics and information technologies.

Sukhoi State Technical University takes part in the implementation of national and interuniversity scientific and technical programmes, actively cooperates with the Centre for Theoretical Physics named after P.O. Sukhoi in the field of education and science. In addition, it cooperates with the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (Trieste, Italy), Trieste and Padua Universities, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna), the Institute for Low Temperatures and Structural Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Wroclaw), the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" and a number of other foreign institutions and educational institutions.

The university has 30 departments. The university has a laboratory building of heavy equipment, a cultural and sports complex, a complex of open sports grounds, a student prevention center and three dormitories.
